Bollywood Movies
Dil Chahta Hai – One of the most popular Hindi movies based on friendship and relationships not only won the hearts of the viewers but also made Chapora Fort popular. If you’re a history lover in Goa, you should definitely check it out.
Dear Zindagi – Revolves around the life of a young lady who seeks the help of a psychologist and he teaches her about life. In this movie, a different side of Goa is showcased. The beauty away from the beaches, village roads with palm trees on either side.
Go, Goa, Gone – This is a unique film that personified Goa and turned it into a character. This movie focuses on the darker side of Goa, with its drugs and nightlife. It showcases a different facet of Goa and the beauty of how you can discover something new every time you visit. This movie features zombies which is not too common in Bollywood films.
Golmaal – Out of the 4 Golmaal movies, three of them had Goa as its main focal point. These movies showcases the fun side of Goa, the beaches, water sports, the pubs, and the night life. It was shot around Old GMC in Panjim complex where INOX is located now, Fort Aguada and Dona Paula.
Finding Fanny – Now this movie’s main point of focus is the interiors of Goa. The film has captured the charming village life of Goa. Parra, Saligao, Aldona, Assagao, Divar and Socorro were some of the villages in North Goa that were chosen for the set, whereas in the South, it was the village of Cortalim. This movie makes you feel like coming to Goa just to experience the quiet side of this bustling state.
Hollywood Movies
The Seawolves – This movie is based on true historical events of World War II and was filmed in Goa. In the movie, a German spy is passing on information about the location of Allied ships in the neutral harbor of Goa, India, which had catastrophic results. Various locations across Goa were used. Some of the locations include The Latin Quarters in Fontainhas, and Prainha Beach in Dona Paula.
The Bourne Supremacy – The first part in the Bourne series was filmed primarily in Goa. One can easily identify the Nerul Bridge, Palolem Beach, and a few places in across Goa.
Shadow of the Cobra – Based on the biography of Charles Sobraj, the most wanted man across the globe. He was caught in O’Coqueiro, a popular restaurant in the 80s which still exists today. There is a bust of Charles Sobraj at the entrance. It used to be placed in the spot where he was caught. If you were a child in the 80s you might remember reading about Charles Sobraj’s capture.
The Letters – A biopic on Mother Teresa and her work, the slum areas were captured in this movie. Mother Teresa’s work was primarily based in Kolkata but over the years the city has developed a new look. The slum side of Goa bears resemblance to Kolkata back in the day and matched the timeline.
Bangkok Hilton – One of Nicole Kidman’s first movies. The overcrowded jail in Bangkok was nicknamed “Bangkok Hilton”. This is a three-part movie or “Miniseries”. The movie is about a young, naïve girl who gets framed for carrying drugs into Thailand. One scene was filmed in Cidade de Goa in Dona Paula.
