Fun Fact about the festival

Did you know that in the beginning, Oktoberfest was a non-alcoholic event? Ironic much, but true! The largest beer festival in the world did not serve beer.

Oktoberfest was essentially the wedding celebration of Bavarian Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese. From then on, the festival has grown with horse races, games, rides, music, and eventually beer.

Highlights of Oktoberfest in Germany

Oktoberfest is declared opened when Lord Mayor opens the first beer barrel in the Schottenhammel tent saying, “O’zapft is!” (“It’s tapped!”).

The registered breweries producing Oktoberfest beers are Augustiner-Bräu, Hacker-Pschorr-Bräu, Löwenbräu, Paulaner, Spatenbräu, Staatliches Hofbräu-München.

The costume and riflemen parade is one of the world’s largest parades of its kind.
